Another good read Scott. I was struck by the opening and agree how important it is to break away when you get stuck. Often, the best ideas, that blast of inspiration, come when we're not actively working on the problem.
But... it's also been my experience that those ideas and breakthroughs only come if I've spent a fair amount of time working on the problem at hand so that when I do step away, my brain has something to work with.

Great point, Scott - and one that the jazz greats would echo. You have to be completely conversant in the core, the skeleton on which you want to build. Without that underpinning, the improvisation is just blowing notes into the wind.
