Great topic Scott! Some insights would be when my children were growing up when at a point they could read well. So we then used to read books together. I would read a chapter and then they would. It allowed them to see and hear proper intonations and flow while having a 3rd party perspective to the story. Then when they read if they stumbled on words we would check the dictionary right then and learn new words. I also seen how their flow of reading was. It was a great engagement. Somewhat like when telling with people. If we tell our story they are but a far off listener, if we appeal to a time when like the story at hand they can relate, then the story is a collective ours!
